REPORTS

Fr. Juettner reported that Bruce Bowen is one of ten men who will be ordained permanent deacons for this Archdiocese on Saturday, September 25 at the Cathedral of St Paul. After the ceremonies there, a reception and luncheon will be held at the parish for Bruce, his family, and invited guests. His first assignment will be as deacon for the Church of St. Raphael.

The Due Diligence Report for the school building is now ready for review and a presentation by a member of the architect firm to committee members will be held in mid September.

Father Juettner also stated that a Stewardship Conference would be held in the Archdiocese on October 6, featuring nationally recognized Stewardship expert, Fr. Joseph Champlin as a presenter. He asked for some members of the parish Stewardship Committee to attend this conference if possible.

Jim Hentges gave some e-mail address changes on the roster for Council members.

Rita Degnan reported that the annual Parish Financial Audit would begin the week of September 13, with auditors on site. The parish Financial Report for the past fiscal year will be found as an insert in the parish bulletin the weekend of November 14 when the Stewardship of Treasure report is given by the chair of the parish Finance Committee.

Jeannine Machan and Fr. Juettner gave an update of the progress for the completion of the 50th Anniversary Commemorative book. The text for the historical accounts of the years for each of the three pastors is finished. Some parishioners are proof reading the text. The design and layout format for the book are also now in progress.

Joe Haefliger reported that Mickey Nickelson, Director of the Archdiocesan Resource Development Office, would address members of the parish Stewardship Committee on September 21. A Ministry Fair, held on the weekend of October 2/3, will precede the presentation on the Stewardship of Time and Talents scheduled for the weekend of October 9/10.

Tom Trksak reported that the proposed new parish committee for Catholic Social Teaching will not happen. After several parish bulletin promotions last Spring and after letters with explanations were sent to prospective new members during the summer, the CST Committee has now been cancelled due to a lack of interest among parishioners. This social apostolate, promoted in the section on "Ministry, Charity, and Justice" in the document entitled The Seven Essential Areas of Parish Life may need to be revisited in future years.

OLD BUSINESS:

Jim Hentges reported on the Evangelization Initiative (E.I.) sponsored by the Archdiocese. Our parish is among most parishes that will participate in the E.I. with the core leadership group having a training session in September. As many as 60 parishioners will participate in the Fall Session so that they may be trained as facilitators when during Lent 2005 all parishioners will be invited to participate in the E.I.

Mary Turner reported the preliminary financial results for the 2004 summer parish festival. As reported in an August parish bulletin the gross income was $115,500 and after all expenses have been paid, the profit is approximately $65,000. A complete festival report will come as an insert in the parish bulletin in October.

NEW BUSINESS:

Jim Hentges reported that this year the Council will treat two new sections from the document entitled The Seven Essential Areas of Parish Life. These sections are "Evangelization and RCIA" and "Education and Catechesis", the first because of the new Evangelization Initiative in our parish and the second because of improvements proposed to the school building and marketing and development efforts now in place for the school.

Fr. Juettner reported that the parish Rosary Society will be the host for the assembly of the Minneapolis Deanery of Catholic Women scheduled here for Monday, September 27. The full day event includes guest speakers, the celebration of Mass, and a lunch.

The pastor also reported that the Archdiocese now requires all parishes to conduct a background check on all volunteers who serve in programs affecting children, youth and vulnerable adults. More information will be found in the parish bulletin and when religious education programs begin this fall.

Closing Prayer by Jim Hentges.
