REPORTS

Fr. Juettner reported that the Diaconate Ordination Ceremony at the Cathedral for Deacon Bruce Bowen and the Mass of Thanksgiving here in the parish were splendid ceremonies for the Bowen family and for the entire parish. Rev. Mr. Bruce Bowen will serve as deacon for the Church of St. Raphael, continue as its music director, and be the coordinator for Baptisms.

The pastor also made the announcement that Bishop Campbell will become the new Bishop for the Diocese of Columbus, Ohio.

The Vocations Committee will host the promotion of vocations for religious women on the weekend of Nov 20/21 with religious sisters present for the weekend Masses who will talk about their vocations and their religious orders.

Finally, there are ten people who are participating in the RCIA class, which is for persons seeking to enter the Catholic Faith.

Jim Hentges reported that Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese has sent an invitation to all parishes to consider ways to assist the immigration of new Hmong families who will be arriving in the Twin Cities this year. Catholic Charities has given concrete ways in which parishes can respond to the resettlement of these refugees. The Council will take this information under advisement, make further inquires with Catholic Charities, and discuss this concern at its next meeting.

Rita Degnan reported that the annual Parish Financial Audit is completed. A report will be given to members of the Finance Committee at their October 19th meeting. The chairman of the Finance Committee will address parishioners from the pulpit on the parish Financial Statement for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2004 the weekend of the Stewardship of Treasure, Nov 13/14, with copies of the Financial Statement available as inserts in the parish bulletin.

Jeannine Machan gave an update on the progress of the 50th Anniversary Commemorative book noting that the process of editing, layout, and picture arrangements for the book continues on a timely basis.

Joe Haefliger reported that Mickey Nickelson, Director of the Archdiocesan Resource Development Office, addressed the members of the Stewardship Committee at its September meeting. She spoke of the efforts and achievements of other parishes that have started Stewardship Committees in their parishes and gave her own suggestions for direction and formation. She stressed the importance of personal conversion in the life of good stewards who should daily express gratitude and praise to God for His generous gifts distributed for the good of all. He also gave a very positive evaluation of the first Ministry Fair in the parish, which other members on the Council also highly acclaimed.

Steve Connolly reported on new developments with the school resulting from the October 6th meeting of the School Advisory Commission. He now attends these monthly meetings as the representative from the Parish Pastoral Council.

OLD BUSINESS:

Jim Hentges gave an update on the parish's preparation for the Archdiocesan Evangelization Initiative (E.I.). Already approximately 40 parishioners are experiencing this program on Sunday evenings in preparation for their roles of service as facilitators of small groups when the program officially begins during Lent 2005. The promotion of this parish-wide Lenten program will begin with announcements before and after Christmas.

NEW BUSINESS:

Fr. Juettner asked members of the Council for their guidance and suggestions in the process of preparing some literature and materials for a "welcome to the neighborhood" for the residents of the new housing development west of the parish. These printed materials would include information about the parish, school, and other ministries and services the parish provides along with parish contacts or visits for those who express an interest in becoming members of the parish. With respect to the new Evangelization Initiative that will happen during Lent 2005, it was also mentioned how the parish could "evangelize" residents in this new development. Members of the Council voiced a concern that several new homeowners will be in residence there even before the Lenten program begins and that a more immediate action plan should be put in place sooner.

Sr. Marie Therese reported a strong response to the Stewardship of Time and Talents on Oct 9/10 with over 700 forms completed. She also thanked the members of the Stewardship Committee for their help in organizing the Ministry Fair the weekend before and in arranging the completed forms in alphabetical order for the scanning process.

Closing Prayer by Mary Amery.
