REPORTS
Fr. Juettner reported that two separate talks would be delivered on the weekend of Nov. 13/14 during the usual homily time. These two presentations include one on the parish Financial Statement for fiscal year ending June 30, 2004 by the chair of the Parish Finance Committee, followed by a status report on the progress within the parish school by members of the School Advisory Commission.
On the weekend of Oct 30/31 the Archbishop asked parishes to observe Citizenship Sunday with the Litany of St. Thomas More offered before the national, state and local elections for public office. That was also the same weekend for Priesthood Sunday when the parish deacon conferred a special blessing upon the parish priests.
On Sunday Nov 21, three Dominican Sisters will be present to promote vocations for women religious during a talk that they will give during post-Communion.
Over 100 people received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick during a Mass on the First Friday of November and the same number of elderly residents is expected to be anointed at North Ridge Care Center on the second Friday of the month.
Finally the annual autumn 'school musical shows' were a great success and an enjoyable time for students, the staff of adult directors and parents, and large audiences.
A Holy Hour of Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament will be offered on the Eve of the Feast of Christ the King on Saturday Nov. 20 in the church, with confessions also available, to mark the parish's second service during the 'Year of the Eucharist.'
Jim Hentges noted that important information came from the Fathers of Mercy who will send one of their priests to conduct our parish mission during Lent 2005. This information contains promotional materials and a guideline to organize the five evening Parish Mission.
Phil Goebel met with a representative from Catholic Charities to learn more about how parishes can assist in the refugee relocation assistance program (for Hmong and Somali families) which this archdiocesan agency is promoting within the Twin Cities metro area. More information and a contact person will be listed in a parish bulletin announcement in November indicating how individuals or groups may get involved.
Rita Degnan reported the parish Finance Committee received a 'clean audit' report from the Auditing Firm that annually reviews the parish financial records.
Steve Connolly reported that during the November meeting of the School Advisory Commission more information was given on the marketing strategies for the school.
OLD BUSINESS:
Jim Hentges gave an update on the progress of the Archdiocesan Evangelization Initiative (E.I.) in our parish. Approximately 40 parishioners have participated in a seven-week series to prepare them as group facilitators for E.I. when it officially begins in Lent 2005. Promotional materials will be found in the parish bulletin before and after Christmas with a parish-wide registration on the weekend of Jan 8/9.
Mary Jo Smith, coordinator of the RCIA program for the parish, came to the Parish Pastoral Council meeting to give a progress report on the past three years of the RCIA program as part of an update on one of the Seven Essential Areas of Parish Life. She noted that this year the RCIA program has 16 people in attendance including 8 candidates (baptized in a 'non-Catholic' Christian denomination) and 1 catechumen (un-baptized), as well as some participants seeking only the Sacrament of Confirmation and some sponsors who are accompanying their candidates.
A preliminary 'welcome to the neighborhood' letter was drafted and discussed by members of the Council. After revisions to the letter are made and other literature is prepared and ready to accompany the letter, the Council will decide when to send it to the homeowners in the new housing development west of the parish grounds.
Closing Prayer by Phil Goebel.
