REPORTS
PASTOR'S REPORT:
Fr. Juettner commented very favorably about the services of Holy Week and Easter. Nine new members were added to the Church on Holy Saturday night. The decorations in the Church sanctuary were quite well done by the Art and Environment Committee.
At the direction of the Archbishop three special Masses are scheduled in the parish: 1st a Memorial Mass for Pope John Paul II on April 6th, 2nd a Mass for the Election of the Pope as the College of Cardinals gather for the Conclave on April 18th, 3rd a Mass of Thanksgiving for the Newly Elected Pope, tentatively scheduled for April 27th.
A second announcement will be made in the parish bulletin during May concerning the proposed improvements to the west parking lot of the church.
Confirmation at the Cathedral of St. Paul went very well with 56 of our tenth grade students receiving this Sacrament.
The process is in place for a Search Committee to begin its mission to find and recommend a new youth minister for our parish. Applications and resumes have been received and interviews will soon begin.
The reception area of the church office is currently being renovated.
After more than 20 years of outreach to the Loaves and Fishes Program, members of our parish will discontinue this ministry in May. An acknowledgement of gratitude was found in the parish bulletin to all the parish volunteers.
As of mid-April the parish has reached 90% of its goal for the Annual Catholic Appeal. After May 1st the ACA office will begin its telemarketing efforts.
Our parish will host the area Ministerial Association with lunch and a meeting on April 21st.
Father accompanied four parishioners to the April luncheon and meeting of the Serra Club, an organization that promotes vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
Three Sisters at the Convent of St. Raphael will be celebrating significant anniversaries of their vowed religious life here at the parish on Sunday, May 22nd, with a Mass of Thanksgiving and reception. Congratulations to Sr. Mary Edmund on her 60th anniversary and to Sr. Marie Therese and Sr. Therese Ann on their 50th anniversaries!
Jim Hentges reported that Mary Amery has resigned her position on the Parish Pastoral Council due to her husband's job transfer and family relocation.
Rita Degnan had no report.
Through a voice mail recording, Fr. Pedersen reported on the progress of the 50th Anniversary Parish Commemorative Book, indicating that pictures are now being scanned digitally into the computer and that the layout with text and pictures is still 'a work in progress' along with additional editing and minor revisions.
Joe Haefliger reported the Stewardship Committee and the DET will collaborate in joint meetings to review their 'mission statements' and address common issues. A recommendation was made to consider introducing a short, meaningful reflection on the 'merits of stewardship' during the time of Post-Communion at Masses on one weekend per month later this year.
Steve Connolly reported that new playground equipment has been ordered. Projected school enrollment for 2005-2006 seems to be steady with possibly some increase. The results of the standardized tests in Math and Reading reveal that our parish scored 97% in both subjects. The new school website looks very impressive and will be a valuable tool for information and communication.
OLD BUSINESS:
Council members reviewed the letter of invitation that was sent on March 30th to those homeowners in Winnetka Greens that are currently in residence there. A letter that welcomes them to the neighborhood and the Easter parish bulletin were part of the mailing. The first of two Open Houses for the new development will be held on Wednesday, April 20th.
